The Labor & Worklife Program at Harvard Law School, the Harvard University Office of Labor Relations and Harvard Business School Human Resources are pleased to announce the second annual Future of Labor Forum, a Harvard faculty-staff initiative.

Radcliffe

The national labor relations landscape is in a period of revision, with critical legislative, judicial and organizing changes affecting key industries and university operations across the country. The Future of Labor Forum will provide a groundbreaking opportunity for union officials, business leaders, practitioners and academics to join representatives from higher education in an open, balanced discussion on contemporary change in national labor markets.

The Forum will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in the Spangler Center Auditorium at the Harvard Business School, across the Charles River from the main campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Forum will include over three hundred attendees from a wide spectrum of union leaders, practitioners and theorists. Leading figures from the business, political and academic worlds. Panelists will discuss the landscape of modern labor relations and its impact on industries and services, with an emphasis on institutions of higher education. Panel topics are as follows:

  • New Benefits Systems for the American Worker
  • The Dynamics of a Changing Domestic Workforce
  • Finding A Collective Voice for Workers in the New Economy

We will also welcome Robert Kuttner, Co-Editor of The American Prospect and a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the think tank Demos, to present a keynote address entitled “Labor Policy and the Next President.”
