Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 615 (Custodial Unit)

Union History and Represented Employees on Campus

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 615 has represented Harvard’s custodial employees since 1984. Previously, custodial employees were represented by the Harvard University Employees Representative Union.

Harvard’s directly-employed custodians work in the University Operations Services (UOS) department. University departments and schools may also enter into contracts with vendors providing custodial services in Harvard-owned buildings. A significant number of these vendor employees are also represented by Local 615, and all are covered by the University’s Wage and Benefits Parity Policy (WBPP).
